Subject: Update WOW wk 1/20/2008: 5th & 6th Grader at PCAC Sunday School
Greetings,
Week 8 now - going strong as we focus on "Getting to know Jesus more, in depth".
Main theme
The center accout is John 1:35 to 42, where Andrew and Peter meet Jesus.
Firstly, we welcome a new student - Pam, who joins us the first time in this quarter.
Then a quick review/recap on John the baptist concerning his messages about Jesus - "Behold, the LAMB of God" as he met Jesus, who took away the sins of the World!
Review/ReCap:crossword puzzle
We played a BIG poster version of crossword puzzle (see attached GIF file), where girls and boys compete on completing the puzzle. It's a very close call!
In total, we have 8 "Across" questions and 5 "Down" questions, and each one is used to impress student's memory and bring the meaning of each answer;
For instance, the "Place where God lives" and "To turn away from sin".
Jump into verses
John 1:35-42, where we get to look at the reactions from Andrew and Peter when they meet Jesus. A question about the meaning of Peter's new name when Jesus changed Simon's name (Cephas...) To my surprise, no student knows about it - Peter)
It comes from the Greek word πέτρα (read petra, in Latin used as petro-), meaning rock, or cliff. The "ROCK" later becomes the disciple of Jesus, the leader of twelve disciples.
What a life-changing experience!
What a life changed when encountered with Jesus!
We extended a call to the students and encourage them:
Are you willing to be the children of God as it's recorded in the John 1, Peter's example?
Behold vs. See vs. Watch vs. Look
What a introduction that John came up when he met Jesus!
We touched upon the "word" - Behold, which can be regarded as an introduction to the audience about an important something or someone. It's different from a) See, b) Watch, or c) Look.
Truely, Jesus's divine introduction into this world, by God's plan as the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world. HE deserves all of our attention!
More on real-life cases
If you're Andrew, what would you react? Will you invite your friend to Jesus?
If you're Peter/Simon, do you understand the meaning of "Peter", and its implication?
We plan to try a different game-plan next week - Biblology game where is similar to a card-board game; It's intended to integrate all of the lessons/verses we learned so far and make an impression to students.
KLUP!
-Sam
